Well, you don't have to deal with it alone. Try not to be afraid to reach out for help if you need it, okay? It's not worth dying over.

Some of the research I've done on it isn't super clear if it's permanent, or even if it just affects the two people involved. I'll see what I can find, though, and send it over.

There's not. It's happened to me a few times now. It's not a fun time, trust me.

It's not a problem, really. It's not even out of my way - I'm at the Archives a lot, anyway.

... You've died several times now? Is... is this like the Deerington thing, you die, come back, and shit gets taken from you?

Yeah. Once in Deerington, twice here. The first time here, I lost all memory of Trench for awhile. We thought maybe it had to do with being in Deerington before this - you know, maybe death rules from there were still applying.

Now? I'm not so sure. The, uh, second time I died here, it was in July, and everything was total chaos with Mariana anyway - coming back not... working predictably, or anything. It's complicated, but I'm in no rush to try again to see if my first theory was right.

Anyway, no, you don't have to give me anything in return. It's really not a big deal to go look something up for someone.

Short of you being a very specific kind of individual, I can't see anyone actively choosing to die over and over. I suppose you could ask around but I'd hate to get an answer.

Yeah, no. Definitely not that kind of person. I mean, there is a guy here who has died way more than me in, like, half the time, but he... is really good at finding trouble.

I prefer no trouble of any sort. I've had enough of it and I'm sure this world will provide more than I care for. So if I can, I'll be avoiding the trouble finder.

I hear you there. A big no to trouble from me too, but it always seems to find us anyway.

Yeah, well, there's no shortage of trouble in a place like this.

Yeah. It kind of does around here, but I mean, you can find ways to minimize it and stuff. Like, by staying away from people like Maul.

Please don't mistake me, I don't EVER actively seek out Maul.

Yeah, trust me. It's the same for me too, although a lot of the times I don't think it's even him seeking me out - okay, yeah, a couple times that's happened, and it didn't go so great. Sometimes it's just Trench being... Well, Trench.

You would think he'd stick to the ones who actually like him, since apparently they exist.

And so I've been warned. Deerington was fond of forcing us around each other, too.

Well... I think a couple times it hasn't really been his fault. I mean, it's not like this place really stops at just forcing us around each other. Sometimes it influences us in other ways too.

*What?* What do you mean influences us?

Well, you know - the way our blood types can influence us sometimes. Like, way back around the time we first got here, one month, anyone who had vileblood was drawn to want to be closer to anyone who had paleblood. That kind of thing.

And I mean, then there's the monsters that can do things too - like the Chocolatier and his chocolates. Make sure you stay away from that guy, okay?

I don't want to be forced to be drawn to people. I don't want to be drawn to some random stranger. I barely know people here.

I know, I know. No one wants most of the things Trench throws at us to happen, but it's still important to be aware of it.

The Chocolatier will trade you a chocolate for blood - there's, uh, a compulsion to eat it once you get one. Some of them are pretty innocent. You know, suddenly sprouting cat ears, or antlers or something. Others not so much.

Maul got one last year that compelled him to kill. Not that he usually needs a whole lot of help in that department, but it kind of overruled the whole 'hey maybe I shouldn't commit murder so I don't lose all my friends who've been trying to help me' sense that he had going on.

As for Maul, he LOVES excuses, he knows exactly three languages: threats, bullshit, and excuses. He looks for one of those three as soon as he can.

[It's only fair if Ritsuka's going to switch to video, she does the same. The cat ears don't come as much of a shock - there's all kinds of people in Trench, but he's so young, and something about his age and his manner immediately puts her in mind of Glitch. She gives a little smile and a wave as the video turns on.]

Normally, I'd agree with you, but this time, I don't think it was just an excuse. He was too stricken in the aftermath by what happened. His reaction was too genuine to be fake.

I wasn't there, so I can only take your assessment and the fact that Maul is a shit actor to go by it.

So, sure. Chocolate monsters and being forced to interact with complete strangers.

Yeah. He wouldn't have been able to fake that kind of remorse. It really was something he didn't mean to happen, as hard as it is to believe, given the number of times he's threatened to kill me.

I mean, there's not really a shortage of threats around here - monsters, curses. Sometimes the Pthumerians themselves, you know. But you kind of adapt to it after awhile.
