[3 hours later. Yes, he had been waiting.]

I am coming to check on you. Warn your roommates.

[She couldn't be dead. And Maul wouldn't....]

[Savage knew that she had died, and he knew that she would come back eventually. He supposed it gave him time to consider their association with each other. His conclusion: was it friendship? Was this what having friends beyond the circle of the Nightbrothers was like? Even then, Nightbrothers refused the word friend. Mostly, it was confusing.

And he took his time answering her, listening to the original message several times first.]

You died. You had a reason for not making it.

How did you die?

[Savage wasn't one to mince words much, especially when it came to death.]

I only engaged in one fight while you were gone. Only bruises.

[He grunted at the idea of her needing to be glad he was fine. He was a warrior and usually they were sporting some injury or another.

Yet, he went oddly quiet - almost like he wasn't breathing - when she admitted it was Maul, confirming his suspicions.]

Was he gloating? [Savage, for once, was considering putting his brother's head into a wall.]

[Savage made a growl of understanding. Sometimes his brother just said things while also attempting to process. It seemed to happen more and more as his brother made stride for self-betterment.]

We'll see how he enacts his changes.

[He would take Maul's side because that's what he did. Internally, things were a bit more complicated. He could never say as much though.]

Are you sick like what happens in Deerington?

[He couldn't say anything. He wasn't about to say things that might not be true. His brother could be rather mercurial at times.]

How much time is too much time as a squid? [Oh. She didn't remember.] No. You were in Deerington and made the journey to Trench many months ago. Do you recall much of anything beyond what happened to you?

[He hadn't minded being a squid when it came to moving around in the waves, tentacle arms clinging to another. It had been a relatively safe feeling that he could recall, but then the beach experience had been disorienting. Perhaps that's what Willow was referring to.]

So you are experiencing the same disorientation as we experienced on the beach the first time. [That was good to know.]

You only remember up to Deerington's end. [So she wouldn't recall that she had been teaching him to read or the Blood Crazed Zealots. That second one was probably worth forgetting, despite the danger of it.] I assume it will return in time. Do you require food or supplies?

[He didn't ask what she would do if she never regained her memories. The answer was obvious that she would just carry on, none the wiser for what she lost if someone didn't tell her. Perhaps it was a boon in some ways.

She was popular or at least friendly, so her reconnecting shouldn't be an issue.]

It's nothing. I've been told that's the 'neighbourly' thing to do.

[He didn't include because his brother had killed her either. Death was a constant, and it shouldn't bother him. It was why he didn't want a life beyond his brother. One person to worry about and save from death was far easier than many... not that it had helped where Feral was concerned.]

We've had a few encounters. I saved you from blood witches.

[He knew it wouldn't explain away his messages, but he wasn't certain if he wanted to risk getting more deeply involved again. Her death made him feel things, and he hadn't enjoyed it.]

[He could tell she didn't believe him, but he wasn't going to give breath the ideas that she might be formulating. He expected he could get away fairly freely if she was suffering from the effects of her return from being a squid.

His precautions to keep her alive had failed this last time. He wasn't used to having to be proactive for other people aside from his brother, his clan or the Nightsisters.]

No, there was the insects. That was some time ago. You aren't much for fighting.

I couldn't say.

[He still didn't know the circumstances, and he wasn't about to guess. He did know she put up enough resistance to his brother at times.]

I would suggest avoiding dying again in future.

Yes, there were threats leveled for a spell that was placed upon him. [But otherwise, he couldn't comment on Maul making good on the threat. It did sound like something his brother would do, especially if there was opportunity.] You told me that you would take precautions, and they seemed to be working.

[He wasn't going to mention their meet up arrangements.]

Good. Everyone gets upset when a nice person dies.

Perhaps it's simply best to stay away from him.

[He didn't count out that his brother might use her amnesia against her. He wouldn't interfere on that save for a single warning to keep his brother at arm's length as much as possible.]

This place hasn't seen fit to challenge me and threaten my life seriously.

I suppose, but most people wouldn't answer the person who killed them. Maybe humans are different than other sentient species that way.

[He wouldn't oppose any decision that she decided to make when it came to his brother.]

I'm too big for trouble.
