I'll cut to the chase. My name's Ezra Bridger and I know an older version of Maul from a future a decade or so past the guy here. Let's just say I was relieved when he died.
I was willing to give this version some benefit of the doubt, especially since Master Kenobi didn't seem worried about Maul coming after him.
Now I think I'm missing a lot of pertinent information. Can we talk?
It's kind of a long, sorry in advance. He attacked a boy I know back in the world we were in before this one. He cut off his arm. Because he was angry. Because the boy yelled at him. I defended my friend, so he threatened to cut my head off on the network for everyone to see.
He showed up on my street, and I'm pretty sure he would have made good on that threat if I didn't catch him off guard and got away.
The second time he showed up, someone beat him to the punch - I was already dead, and he got so angry, he tore down my house.
The dream was falling apart, a really good friend of mine who was trying to make sure I stayed safe got killed a couple days after I got back - unrelated reasons. But that was enough for me to agree to curse Maul. So everyone in that house would be at least a little safer. And the rest of the town, too.
The curse was a pretty tricky one. If he hurt a Sleeper, it would hurt him too. We gave him a potion that would break it, but explained it would only activate if he went after redemption and experienced true remorse for what he had done to everyone.
Glitch and I weren't the only ones he came after in Deerington - he had killed a list of Sleepers probably about as long as my arm, and tormented or injured plenty more besides.
We saw signs of improvement. Up until this. Now? I don't know. He has a good side, but I don't know if it's strong enough to overwhelm the bad stuff too, you know?
The older version never raised hand or lightsaber against me. In fact, he protected me at times. But he hurt, or tried to hurt, a lot of the rest of my family, including Obi-wan.
Thank you. I'm sorry you're dealing with all this, too. If you need someone wielding a lightsaber to slow him down, call me and I'll be there. But I don't think that's a fight I can win alone.
One other thing - I've let him think I know him by reputation, at most. I didn't want to give him more reasons to be interested in me. Now I'm wondering I can leverage the history on my side to get him to listen. I need to think on it.
